I lived on Cedars Road, Barnes
in 1972 and 1973. Some of my most happy memories are from those years.

(nee Stannard) used to live at 26 Cleveland Road, Barnes around 1918. Does

The twinning with Le Pecq was
a good idea as it differentiates Barnes from the other twinning that Richmond
Borough has in France. However for the twinning of Barnes I would have chosen
Chatou just west of Paris and not Le Pecq. Chatou is much more like Barnes
(in fact it's only 2 stops from Le Pecq on the train) with a famous bridge
over the river which was painted by one of the famous French impressionists.
Chatou would have been a much better choice if we are looking for close
similarities. How did we get to choose Le Pecq or did they pick us?? |

lived in Barnes from age 6 to
age 39, then moved to new forest, went to Lowther school as did my son Dominic
Ambrose and my mother Mary Westaway worked there for many years. Loved living
in Barnes in the 60's and 70's but it was taken over by "The smart set"
in the 80's and 90's and most of the people who had lived there for generations
were priced out - so sad - I bet there aren't many local authority houses
there still owned by the local authority!!!! Had many lovely evenings in
The Bridge public house, I understand its a ghastly gastro pub now! And
was in the BCA drama group for a while. Would love to hear from anyone who
remembers me. |
