I was born in Mortlake and moved
to Barnes when I was 4 years old, my Mother was also born in Mortlake and
her family can be traced back 200 years there, my Father was born in Barnes,
and his ancestry can be traced to over 100 years there. Barnes is a lovely
lovely place to live and I miss it very much, and go back at any opportunity
to look round. |

Enjoyed a months stay in Barns
as a guest of my sister, Mrs Ranasinghe of 30, Cressy House, Queens Ride
in July of 1999. Quite, beautiful and peaceful place. Enjoyed walking around
the parks and the pond area, and jogging along the river bank from Putney
Bridge, past Hammersmith upto the Barnes Bridge. Hope you people will keep
Barnes 'Green' forever. |

Hart pub. Lived and worked here from Feb 95 to Sept 95 under the governor
John & Pat and the manager Stuart. Are they still there?
Excellent pub and people, thoroughly enjoyed my time in Barnes and Sheen/Richmond
(best places in London).
Could work in any pub in the world after working Boat Race day there, flat
out the whole day.

Just browsing - I lived in Elm
Grove Road, Barnes from 1955 to 1973 when I came to Australia to get married
before returning to UK - somehow, apart from the occasional holiday, I haven't
made it back !
Having lived there from the age of 7 until 25, you could say Barnes is where
my roots are - it's just that my branches have spread out a bit.
I went to Latymer Foundation school in Hammersmith before going to what
was then called East Sheen Grammar School (now Shene School). I was a member
of the youth club at the Methodist Church in Station Street and for four
years I was a delivery boy for the butcher in that short section of shops
in Church Road between St Mary's and the pond.
I have very fond memories of Barnes and can still picture it as it was in
those times - I suspect it's changed a bit since then. I paid a fleeting
visit to the village whilst in UK on business about ten years ago and was
surprised at how narrow Elm Grove road had become - hard to believe it once
had buses running up it.
For some time I've been trying to contact Shene Old Grammarians - is there
anybody out there who could help?
I'll add this site to my "favourites" to see how the place develops |

Nice to see Barnes on The internet
map, I was born in barnes and some of my family still live there. It is
a shame that the prices of houses have pushed families apart. As my family
have been in Barnes since at least 1882 |
